Lifting chains consist of a master link at the top, optional shortening hooks, the chain itself, and lifting hooks at the bottom. The master link is attached to the crane hook of the hoisting mechanism, while the lifting hooks are connected to the load. There are both single-leg chains and multi-leg chains (2-, 3-, and 4-leg assemblies). The advantage of multi-leg chains is that they allow for a more balanced lift. Shortening hooks make it easier to lift a load horizontally and stably.
