Lifting chains consist of a top link at the top, optionally shortening hooks, the chain itself, and lifting hooks at the bottom. The top link is attached to the crane hook of the hoisting mechanism, and the lifting hooks to the load. There are both single chains and multiple-leg chains (2-, 3-, and 4-leg). The advantage of multiple-leg chains is that the load can be lifted more evenly. Shortening hooks make it easier to lift a load horizontally and stably.
